SHELTER MANAGER

Shyleigh Iveland

Shyleigh has always had a love for animals and remembers spending countless hours watching Animal Planet and reading as many informational books on animals as she could in her youth.

She became very active in the FFA in high school, competing in the Vet Science competition every year and taking as many animal-related courses as possible. She had always wanted to work with animals and help them in any way she could, dreaming of becoming a Large Animal Veterinarian, but after shadowing an equine vet realized that she wasn't cut out for anything strictly medical.  She went to the University of Eau Claire-Barron County and acquired her Associate's Degree of Arts and Sciences with plans to go into Biochemistry but quickly realized that wasn't her passion. Shyleigh decided to focus on work and take a break from school until she determined what career would be most fulfilling for her. She eventually stumbled upon the part-time caregiver position here at the Humane Society of Barron County and leaped at the opportunity to work with animals. It took very little time for her to realize that animal rescue was what she wanted to do full-time. There was an opening for Shelter Manager and she decided to take the chance and applied, hoping that her enthusiasm and passion would make up for her lack of experience in the field.

Upon receiving the job, Shyleigh has been working to improve and expand her knowledge of Shelter practices to improve the lives of the animals in the care of the Humane Society as well as improve the rates of successful adoptions. Shyleigh is very grateful to have been given this opportunity and looks forward to many great years working to find homeless pets their forever homes. She currently lives in Rice Lake with her four rescue cats Eio, Zari, Kai, and Fia.

We’re proud to be a group of movers and shakers.
