Effective July 19, 2024, all dog adopters living outside of Wisconsin will be required to pay a fee of $69 to cover the additional cost of an Interstate Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.

Wisconsin State law requires all dogs sold (adopted) to individuals residing outside of Wisconsin to be accompanied by an Interstate CVI.

Any dog adopters not residing in Wisconsin must pay the additional CVI fee to cover the extra cost of the required Interstate CVI.

An Interstate CVI can only be completed by a licensed veterinarian. The exams are completed by appointment only, at an offsite location. 

The Interstate CVI must be completed before the adoption and transport of the dog across state lines.

• Occasionally, CVI appointments may be available on the same day as a scheduled meet-and-greet but they will likely need to be completed at another time.

If an adopter wishes to reserve a dog, the CVI fee must be paid to secure a reservation.

• Out-of-state dog adopters may reserve without meeting the dog in person.

This additional CVI fee is non-refundable and specific to an individual dog. 

• If a CVI fee is paid and the adopter wishes to adopt a different dog, they will need to pay an additional CVI fee for that dog’s CVI.

Adopters may wish to wait to acquire the Interstate CVI until after meeting a dog. This is allowed, however, it will mean that they will need to make a second appointment to complete the adoption if an Interstate CVI cannot be acquired on the same day as their meet-and-greet.

The CVI fee must be paid by the potential adopter prior to HSBC acquiring the Interstate CVI.

• We cannot schedule or acquire the Interstate CVI until payment is received.

Interstate CVI payments will be available to complete online via Square or can be paid using cash or card in person at a meet-and-greet appointment.
