Pre-Adoption Hold.

Every once in a while, the perfect match comes along before an animal is officially ready for adoption. Whether they’re still too young or waiting for medical clearance, this page allows you to place a pre-adoption hold on the animal you’re looking to welcome home.

Once a hold is placed, our staff will stay in direct contact with you and keep you updated on when your new companion will be ready to finalize the adoption.

Please note:

The adoption fee must be prepaid and is due in full to place a pre-adoption hold (this covers your adoption fee once the animal is ready tor adoption).
All hold fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Animals must be picked up within one week of the date they become available for adoption, or the pre-adoption hold will be canceled. Fees will not be refunded if the hold is not fulfilled.

Adoption a dog and live outside of Wisconsin? Click here for information on obtaining an Interstate Certificate of Veterinary inspection (CVI), which is required by law for your new pet to travel across state lines.

Schedule Meet & Treat and/or Pick Up

Ready to meet your future family member? Our Meet & Treat Calendar allows families with pre-adoption holds to schedule a time to visit, connect with, and prepare to welcome their new companion home. Depending on the animal's status, this appointment may be an an opportunity to meet them for the first time or to finalize your adoption paperwork and take home your new friend.

Please be sure to schedule a final Meet & Treat appointment on or after the date you were given for your animal's adoption availability. Appointment must be scheduled within seven (7) days of the animal becoming available, as all pre-adoption holds are automatically canceled after that period. Any appointments scheduled outside of the eligible timeframe will be canceled.
